Emerging technologies like machine learning, natural language processing, and wearable devices play a vital role in early detection of mental health issues. Early detection is crucial for timely intervention, improved outcomes, crisis prevention, social and occupational impact reduction, cost savings, long-term well-being, destigmatization, and support. Incentives for early detection include awareness campaigns, training, screening programs, and accessible services. Generative AI has been used for suicide risk prediction, social media analysis, voice analysis, smartphone data analysis, and chatbots for early mental health support. However, limitations and challenges such as data bias, clinical integration, interpretability, accessibility, continual learning, and privacy concerns need to be addressed. A case study demonstrates the use of sentiment analysis and emotion recognition for automated detection of potential suicidal thoughts in online environments.
